The random thoughts of a genius...er...gene nash.

I'm having a dilemma regarding this year's presidential elections: I don't want to vote for either of these guys!

I'm a Republican who did not vote for Bush. I thought his father was the worst president of my lifetime (and that includes Nixon!) and expected no better from him. I was wrong. Bush fils has been an okay president. He's not great but he hasn't driven the country into the ground either. America's still been an okay place to live under him. Bush Sr. made this country into a nightmare. Divisiveness, strife, and stress ruled the four years of the first Bush administration. America was not a fun place to live during those four years.
I remember back in the waning days of Reagan when people at a roundtable I was an assistant SysOp for on the GEnie information service were talking down Bush pere and saying it was time to try the expatriate-in-Paris thing. I couldn't understand it. I thought they were cracked. Then Bush became president and I understood all too well. Bush left such a bad taste in my mouth that I've voted Democrat for president ever since.
I expected the same from our current Bush but was pleasantly surprised. When 9-11 happened I was glad we had a Republican president because I knew he'd go out there and kick ass, take names, and do what needed to be done. I just don't believe Al Gore would have had the spine for it. I perceive him as if he would have wanted to negotiate, open diplomatic talks, and hold hearings into what we had done to bring this upon ourselves. Blech.
None-the-less, I'm still not crazy about Bush. I doubt that under four more years of Bush I'd still think he was an okay president. I'm convinced my opinion will drift into Reagan territory.

"Reagan was a great one-term president."
"But he served two terms."
"Yeah, that's the problem."

Bush is doing a lot of things I just don't like. Ashcroft. The "Patriot" Act. Cheney. Ashcroft. Halliburton. Cheney. Siding with the money gouging, profiteering drug companies against desperate Americans. Ashcroft. Just to name a few.

I hoped so much that the Dems could come up with a strong candidate. Instead what did we get? The howler, the mortician, the Keebler elf, the "social activist" comedy relief.... Ugh. I'm sorry, I think Kerry is a joke. He's far too liberal to win. I don't think any of the Democratic candidates could have beaten Bush. The only question is are people going to get such an incredible distaste for Iraq that they'll do anything to get rid of Bush just to extricate us from there? Call it the Spanish Factor.

So who am I going to vote for? I definitely will not be voting Democratic this year, unless something really bad happens to Kerry and they have to start over. I'd rather not vote for Bush either. Hmm, protest vote to Nader? Perhaps I'll just throw it all to the wind and write myself in. Yeah, that might work.

I feel the same way. It is sad when one votes on who they hate less.
