Earth = My Blog?
Published on May 13, 2004 By Gene Nash In Blogging

You see that information box at the top corner of your JoeUser window that gives your user points and rank? (Non-registered users need not apply.) I've been sitting here staring at those icons wondering just what the hell they are supposed to represent. Even the ones I recognize don't make sense.

My Account Icon "My Account" Icon. Okay, that one's easy. It looks like half a computer monitor. Or, if I don't look too closely, my old Mac+.

My Blog Icon "My Blog" Icon. Easy but with a twist. It's obviously our planet Earth, but is it just me or is the Earth frowning? The planet actually looks depressed. Do they make enough Prozac to feed an actual planet? How would you administer it? CORE II: The Prozac Suppository "When the planet succumbs to deadly depression, a highly trained team of scientists tries the unthinkable!" *

Create New Article Icon "Create New Article" Icon. I'm clueless. Is it a Bic disposable lighter? An aerosol spray can? Spray paint, maybe? (I guess that one might make sense.)

My Articles Icon "My Articles" Icon. I'm not sure but I think I saw this turn Christopher Lee into a pile of dust once. What it has to do with my articles is beyond me. I mean, I have a high opinion of my stuff, but not that high.

Track Watch List Icon "Track Watch List" Icon. This is the only one that is both obvious and makes sense. It's a magnifying glass, the site-wide symbol for the "tracked articles" list. Like Sherlock Holmes might pull out his magnifying glass and track down the criminals. Yeah, that one I get.

I'm open to suggestions. Anybody have any idea what these things are and how they are representative of what they supposedly identify?

    * Actually, using The Core I as a suppository might be much more enjoyable than watching it.

P.S. -- In case you don't read the comments, I don't want you to miss Mr. Frog's hilarious response. (Forum people, sorry for the redundancy.) Here it is:

You got it man. Here's the scoop on the symbolism of what those icons *really* mean:

My Account : The reason that they used this icon is to represent JoeUser's attachment to his monitor while logged in. Every five minutes Joe is checking his point count, watching his rise to success as he nears the top 10. The fact that only half of the monitor is there represents the symbiotic relationship with the user, since it is half of the user.

My Blog: The Earth is depressed because everyone is arguing about politics and religion, which is ruining our planet. It is frowning because the whole reason we are in Iraq is that we are actually trying to deliver said suppository right up its ass. It's pretty big, so there's some stretching involved.

Create New Article: This my friend is a pipe or "monkey" wrench. This is actually correct symbolism here, because it is actually a warning that joeuser.com is inevitably going to give you a '500 - internal server error' after writing a ten page article in the WYSIWYG editor (thereby throwing a wrench into the works, so to speak).

My Articles: This icon is actually a representation of a four-way lug nut wrench. Imagine yourself on the highway and you get a flat. You're outside your car changing the tire with said wrench. Then some careless driver runs you over and kills you because he doesn't agree with what you say in your latest political tirade against Dubya or the war. That is what this icon is trying to warn you of.

Track Watch List: This is a magnifying glass so you can burn all of the little ants in the JoeUser system that Jepel so dutifully warned us about. Never lose track of an article again! 10 points if you fry the queen.

Glad I could help.

. LMFAO. Very good, Mr. Frog. Well thought out, well said, and funny as hell. I like your comment better than my original article. You get an "insightful."

>> This my friend is a pipe or "monkey" wrench.

After I posted it and saw the "double sized" version of the icon, I squinted, twisted my neck to the left and thought, "Is that a wrench?" I think you're right about that. This shows I don't own very many tools.

Gasp! Someone help smartaz right away! We need tools here! Nobody should be without tools. When I walk into Sears I want to buy one of everything, even if I don't need it.

Thank you for the link, Mr. Frog. You are officially the first person to ever link to this blog. That deserves something. I don't know what, but till I come up with something better, I've reciprocated on my sidebar.

Hmmm was looking at these and noticed that mine doesn't show my rank any more. Don't know how long it's been like that. I rarely looked at that anyway, but now I have to ask, WTF???

Also I've noticed that on my blog page the links at the top for JU Home and Forums is missing. I KNOW they used to be there. HMMMMM. I think THEY have been tampering with my blog site.

They temporarily removed that because it was slowing down the site. According to Brad it will be back once they figure out a way to make it faster. Till then, click on your name. You can see your rank on the info page.

Don't know what's up with that. Mine are still there.
