The random thoughts of a genius...er...gene nash.
so many doors, ladies, and tigers

When you begin your daily JU adventure, what page do you start on? The front page? The forums? Your own page?

I used to always begin on my own main page, but now I have three different places where I begin depending on my intentions.

  1. My Own Main Page. While I used to always start here, it's too long and takes too much time to load for everyday use. Now I only go there first when I want to know how frequently my articles are being read, how they're doing point-wise, and occasionally to see if anyone commented.
  2. My First Article. After getting frustrated with the load-time of my main page, I switched to this. It's short, therefore it loads quickly. The sidebar gives me a run down of the latest articles and replies (seen here as "forum posts") making it a good place to start.
  3. The Newest Articles Page. This is my latest place for beginning. When I've been logged off long enough I know there are more than 10 new articles, I start here. It makes it easy to quickly catch up while still giving me access to my main navigation links, the sidebar.

So, where do you enter JU and why?

    Yours,
    Gene Nash

Well, since I use the Stardock Central browser mostly, and because I usually visit the Wincustomise website daily (as a rule), I use the address bar in that.

Joeuser is always a permanent link in that browser, which takes me to the front page. I have a quick look to see which are the top articles, (and read them), then move on to the forums.

Occasionally I check my own blog... but only to see where my points are sitting... not that I really care too much about them.

I hit the forums to see whether my favourite bloggers have posted new comments or articles. (Y'all know who you are )

I forgot, there is one other place I "enter JU" (in retrospect that sounds kind of dirty).

4. Other People's Comments Pages. Sometimes if I've written a response to someone's articles and wish to see if they have responded, I'll start with that page. (Don't you love Address AutoComplete? I'd be lost without it.) I'll also start at someone else's comments page when I'm following a flame war, whether I'm involved or not.

Unless I need to edit one of my replies I avoid the forums (wish I could edit from the comments pages ). The forums are too slow on my old machine.

I will defer to your wisdom on the matter, Sir Peter.

I get email notifications when threads are updated, so I start there.  Then I go to the forums, and from there to my blog.

I always use the forum. It's the most convenient place for me.

That's interesting. I'm surprised so many people use the forums.

I used to do that (I still click the icon for my own articles) but I haven't read my email since packing the computer before I moved in March. My unread email's over 30 megs now. That's so intimidating, I've been avoiding it.

Since I just have my blog typed in the address bar I just usually go there first. I don't usually stay there, just hit the Forums link and come here.
