The random thoughts of a genius...er...gene nash.
what? couldn't lure geraldo back?

Remember when Geraldo was a respected ABC News journalist, back before he "opened Al Capone's vault" and earned sideshow status? Remember the good old days when you lost journalistic credibility after leaving ABC News? These days you cost ABC News its credibility by joining them.

Ending months of speculation, ABC announced it will try to keep its late-night news program Nightline trudging along after the loss of anchor Ted Koppel.

In a "one person can't follow that act!" move akin to having two villains in every Batman movie since Jack Nicholson's Joker, ABC assigned three people as Koppel's replacement: Cynthia McFadden, Terry Moran, and... Martin Bashir.

Martin Bashir?! The quack who is still always referred to as "British journalist" even after being hired by ABC for scoring them big ratings with his trashing of Michael Jackson?! I'm astounded this guy can get a job anywhere after Living with Michael Jackson. That was the most biased, slanted, character assassinating, chop job I have ever seen. That wasn't journalism that was vendetta for profit. And now he's hosting Nightline?!?! To paraphrase another pseudo-journalist, "Give me a f--king break!"

As far as I am concerned, with this hire Nightline has lost all credibility. Watch that first misstep, Nightline -- it's a doozie. You've gone from A-circuit headliner to back alley geek show with no stops in between.

What, you guys couldn't lure Geraldo back?

Sure, amongst those not wearing foil beanies and signing up for the "MSM Agenda" conspiracy theory of the month club.

While ABC News had already lost credibility in some areas (for example, they are decidedly anti-Christian, led by Cokie "never met an atheist I didn't love" Roberts), this to me represents a complete loss of credibility.

I also wouldn't have put much store in their magazine programs (20/20 included), but their hard news outlets of Nightline and the World News Tonight still had some respect. With the passing of Peter Jennings and now this insanity, that pretty much finishes nailing down the coffin lid.

Love him or hate him, Ted was Nightline.  ABC should have euthanized it with his departure.

They probably should have, and started over with something brand new to match the changed format and decidedly different anchors.

Unfortunately, the world is all about branding these days. Too bad they failed to grasp the fundamental nature of the product and just stuck the brand name on something completely different. When I order KFC I don't expect fish and chips.

A brand is worthless when it's degraded like this.

I don't have a problem with Koppel. Forrest Sawyer on the other hand I can't stand. Now there is a guy who has an opinion and will force it and use it to color everything he does. Bad journalist.

Yes! Ted was NL! Sorry, I did like him and watch him for many years.  Like SNL and Belushi, no more.
