love is in the air

Pillsbury has new commercials featuring their longtime spokescreature Poppin' Fresh, the Pillsbury Doughboy, dancing with their products as popular tunes from the past play.

One of the songs is John Paul Young's "Love is in the Air." It sounds like the version from the Strictly Ballroom soundtrack. Great movie, great song. I love both. I'm prone to putting my MP3 on loop and letting it play for an hour.

But my MP3's on the other computer -- the one with the burned out power supply -- and my CD is in a warehouse in Burbank. And unlike the days I could head off to Glendale's famed Brand Library and acquire any song I fancied, there's no supplier for a quick musical fix around here. There's no music purveyor who'll seductively whisper in my longing ear, "Psst, the first hit's free, m'boy." Sadly, for me love is no longer in the air.

Now comes the dancing Doughboy, grinding away to my beloved music. And I'm grinding with him! This place has become the gay bar of a Lewis Carroll nightmare. Do I slip a bill in the Doughboy's kerchief? What if he wants more than a quick bump and grind on the dance floor? Where's his woman Poppy, and does she know about this?

I've got to recover my MP3 and work this out of my system. Ever since that first night, I've walked around singing the song. I've even taken to doing it as Elvis.

Dang, sometimes I'm easily amused.
