For those of you who didn't read my previous article about Kenneth "Jody" Thompson (and for the nearly 200 of you who did, but couldn't be bothered to comment -- A POX ON YOUR HOUSES, GOOD SIRS!), here's the skinny:
Jody Thompson got sent to prison for pulling stickups. He told people he didn't want to rob them but had to because his (non-existent) kid had cancer. Earlier this year he escaped, beelined for Vegas, and started holding people up again. A couple days after being featured on America's Most Wanted someone tipped the cops, they arrested him, and ever since then the Vegas news media have been drooling and falling all over themselves to cover every possible angle. It's worse than watching the Special Olympics wrap party and dance.
Excuse me if I'm getting this wrong. I looked it up but could only find some vague, anorexic AP filings, even on the Vegas TV news station's webpages. (Hey! Dunderheads! It's a story you are covering 24/7, what's with the AP crap? Your reporters don't know how to type? ((Actually, I'd believe that....)) You can't hire a transcriptionist? Sheesh!) I couldn't even find the case listed on the web version of the court calendar. I'll have to take the TV news's say-so on this.
They're reporting that this guy can make bail! The judge said he'd have to be behind bars for at least five days.
What?! Pardon me?! You're gonna hold the guy for a week before deciding on bail? Didn't the mo-fo just escape from prison?! Why isn't he being immediately sent back there? (Yeah, I know he just got a bunch of new charges piled on that he has to appear in court for, but really!)
Seems the judge thinks Thompson might be a flight risk. Gee, ya think? What was your first clue, Sherlock? The freaking prison break?!?!?!?!
How can this guy even be eligible for bail? Shouldn't the laws be written in such a way that if a convict escapes from prison he's automatically in no way eligible for bail when recaptured? Considering some of the whacked out judges we have these days, why would you ever leave that up to a judge's discretion?
That the judge didn't look at Thompson's lawyer and say, "Bail? You're kidding right? Get the ^%$# out of my courtroom" makes me wonder about the guy. What is there to consider?
Good Lord, the legal system in this state is broken. Seriously broken.
