Well, I'd better memorialize this while I still can. My new personal all-time best ranking here on JU. Number 7. WooHoo. My previous best was around number 18. One of my goals last year was to get into the top ten. I had this whole grand plan. Like most of my grand plans, it flopped miserably. Nonetheless, I made it. It might have taken till the next year, but I made it! [ Update: Just so there's no confusion, the picture is from mid-January, not the day I posted the articl...

[This is part two of my article about the last day of Faith Center Christian School. Part one can be found at this link. ] Twenty years now Where'd they go? Twenty years I don't know I sit and I wonder sometimes Where they've gone And sometimes late at night When I'm bathed in the firelight The moon comes callin' a ghostly white And I recall I recall -- Bob Seger, Like A Rock Our date would be in two parts. First, my mother would take us to Shakey's pizza place for...

I've lived in fear of this day. It was bound to happen. Everyone gets cut down eventually. But I'm still so young! I've been tagged. By name yet. According to Blogger Law, I must now answer the following questions. (Let me preface this by saying, if I have any real problem with these type things it's that they so often ask for "favorites." As I elucidated in an article a while back, I don't really have favorites. I may have several things within a category I give preference too, but i...

"It seems like yesterday "But it was long ago..." --- Bob Seger, Against the Wind Though nobody knew it at the time, 25 years ago last week Faith Center Christian School of Glendale, California graduated its last class. One of those graduates happened to be a young fellow by the name of Gene Nash. Raymond Schoch founded the Faith Center church in 1930. I don't know when it moved to its greatly expanded present location across from the famous Forest Lawn Cemetery or when it began the s...

I don't know who's responsible, who may have made phone calls, or what strings may have been pulled, but after more than a week and a half I have been freed from my captivity under the counter of Laughlin's only falafel stand/pool concession "Falaughlin World." I'm now free to blog again and go about my business as if nothing had happened. (The ten Iranian grandchildren of Falaughlin World's owners, who pummeled and kidnapped me from the community pool to begin with, made it very clear i...

Please excuse the misplaced 3s. As you read this article, you'll discov3r I'm blogging from an Intern3t connected cash register with a sticky 3 3 E. (Damn!) With the unseasonably warm weather came the d3cision to start the community pool season early. In a desperate attempt to cool off, I soaked in a vat of SPF 5000 and headed out. I found it nec3ssary to keep mainly to the middle of the pool as the North Eastern corner had been claimed by 10 of Laughlin's 14 Iranian citizens (grandchildr...

Any time I've said "X will never hold office Y" -- "X will never be Y" -- I've always been right. I'm going to go out on a limb and say: John McCain will never be the President of the United States. There's lots of political rumbling about McCain and how he's a juggernaut and even "everyone respects him." I want to jump way out ahead of the wagon, be the lone Chinese standing in front of the tank, and warn off the Republican Party. John McCain will never be the president! What? You want s...

I first thought of this round about December. It got shelved when I got hospitalized. Since I think of it every once in a while, I've decided to trot it out and try it anyway. Just as an exercise, I'm going to try writing an article for each category in the JU forums. I say "try" because there are a couple that I have doubts about. For instance, "OS Customization." What do I know about OS customization? Another one, "Game Developers." Pffft. I haven't developed a game in nearly 20 years,...

Ever since Kobe Bryant's ego pushed Shaquille O'Neal out of L.A., I've said, "If there's any justice, L.A. will fall apart and the Heat (Shaq's new team) will win the championship." I even wrote an unpublished article entitled "Die, Lakers, Die!" that expressed those sentiments. Last night, winning their first game in Dallas since 2002, the Miami Heat walked away with the NBA Championship. Meanwhile, in their first Shaq-less year the Lakers couldn't even make the playoffs. This year the Ph...

When foreverserenity posted Esquire's list of "59 Things A Man Should Never Do Past 30" it was suggested that someone should write a similar list for women. I decided to take up the cause. Here are the results. (The limiting to 29 is totally arbitrary. I actually wrote about 35 then trimmed it back.) 29 Things A Woman Past 30 Should Never Do by Gene Nash 1. Date vacuous eye candy just because "he's hot." (A.K.A. The Trophy Boyfriend.) 2. Own more than 3 cats. 3. Put glitter on ...

Hot off the criticism over seemingly pre-judging a case, Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia has raised his hand to the press -- minus 4 fingers. Emerging from a special mass at Boston's Cathedral of the Holy Cross, Justice Scalia was asked by a reporter if he received a lot of questions regarding his impartiality about separation of church and state. Scalia responded, "You know what I say to those people?" and flipped the bird at the press. "That's Sicilian," he said. Cue Dino. "When...
